How Emetack Began

On June 1, 2019, Emetack opened its first office in a single rented room in Masaka, Uganda. The company was launched with just USD 695 — USD 278 contributed by friends and family and USD 417 saved from small software and technology projects. It was a modest beginning, but it carried a bold vision: to use technology and practical ICT education to create opportunities for young people who, like its founder, had grown up with very few.

The founding team was small but committed. Joseph Jjuuko served as Director, Mutebi Ronald as ICT Instructor, Nabukenya Ida as Receptionist, alongside Viola Nasaka. Together, they worked tirelessly to build an organization that would help young people gain practical skills, find employment, and improve their futures.

From the beginning, Emetack was supported by people who believed in its vision. The first shareholders included Mutebi Ronald, Joseph Jjuuko, Nabukenya Ida, Najjuuko Josephine, Basula Anatoli, Nandawula Juliet, Komugisha Lillian, Komugisha Charity, and Tumaine David Kami. Their confidence and financial support made it possible for Emetack to take its first steps. Their belief in the dream will always remain part of the company's story, and Emetack is deeply grateful for the trust they placed in its future.

Only months after opening, the COVID-19 pandemic brought an unexpected crisis. Businesses closed, training programmes stopped, and income disappeared. Like many small businesses around the world, Emetack was forced into an extremely difficult position. To honour its commitments, the company repurchased the shareholders' investments despite the financial hardship. It was a painful period that resulted in the loss of assets, interrupted operations, and the temporary closure of the business.
But the story did not end there.

When hope seemed distant, the Ahlnér family from Sweden, led by Emelie Ahlnér and her family, once again extended their support. Their encouragement and financial assistance helped Emetack reopen and begin rebuilding. That support was more than funding, it was a renewed vote of confidence in a mission that refused to give up.

Today, Emetack stands stronger than ever. From one rented room, it has grown into a respected ICT training and technology organization serving students, businesses, and communities across Uganda. Every challenge has strengthened its purpose, and every setback has reinforced its commitment to creating opportunities through education and innovation.

The journey of Emetack is proof that great institutions are not built by resources alone, they are built by people who believe in a vision, remain faithful during difficult times, and choose to keep moving forward when giving up would have been easier.
