Volunteer with Emetack

Volunteer in Uganda

At Emetack, we believe that meaningful change begins when people share their time, knowledge, skills, and ideas. Our volunteer programme provides an opportunity for people from Uganda and around the world to contribute to technology, education, community development, innovation, and digital skills development.

Whether you are a student, professional, entrepreneur, technology specialist, researcher, educator, creative professional, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, there may be a place for you at Emetack.

Emetack welcomes volunteers who want to contribute to our work in Uganda and help us expand access to technology, knowledge, and opportunities.

Our volunteer opportunities are available in three main formats:

Local Volunteer

Ugandan residents can volunteer with Emetack and participate in projects, training, community activities, research, technology development, and other programmes.

International Volunteer

People from outside Uganda can travel to Uganda and volunteer with Emetack, gaining practical experience while contributing their skills to projects and communities.

Virtual Volunteer

You do not have to travel to Uganda to contribute. Virtual volunteers can work remotely from anywhere in the world and support Emetack through technology, research, content development, fundraising, digital marketing, proposal writing, and other activities.

Why Volunteer With Emetack?

Volunteering with Emetack provides an opportunity to contribute to practical initiatives while gaining experience, building relationships, learning about Uganda, and participating in technology and community development.

The digital divide continues to affect access to knowledge, education, skills, and economic opportunities. By sharing your knowledge and expertise, you can help contribute to efforts aimed at closing this gap.

Your contribution could help a young person learn computer skills, help a business establish an online presence, support a community project, improve a digital platform, strengthen a fundraising proposal, or help develop a new programme.

Do not rely solely on information from third-party websites or old visa information. Check the official immigration portal for the current requirements applicable to your nationality and purpose of travel.

Where Will You Be Based?

Most in-person Emetack volunteer opportunities are based in Masaka, Uganda. Being based in Masaka provides volunteers with an opportunity to experience the environment in which Emetack carries out much of its community, education, technology, and development work.

Some assignments may also involve activities in other locations depending on the project.

If you are unable to travel to Uganda but have skills that can be useful to Emetack, virtual volunteering is available as an alternative.

How Long Can I Volunteer?

There is flexibility depending on the type of volunteering.

International Volunteers

For people travelling to Uganda, we generally recommend at least one month where possible. A longer stay can provide more time to understand the organization, settle into the environment, develop relationships, and contribute meaningfully to projects.

Volunteer placements may be extended depending on the project, performance, availability, and mutual agreement.

Local Volunteers

Local volunteers can participate for a period that works with the programme and their availability, from a few days to several months.

Virtual Volunteers

Remote volunteering can be arranged according to the requirements of the project and the volunteer's availability.

Do I Need to Fundraise?

Fundraising is not compulsory.

However, volunteers who are interested in fundraising are encouraged to participate where appropriate. Fundraising can help support technology initiatives, digital skills programmes, community projects, education, and other activities.

You will have the opportunity to understand the needs of the communities and projects you are supporting and see how resources can contribute to practical outcomes.

Make a Difference

You don't have to change the whole world to make a difference.

Sometimes, one hour of teaching, one website, one software solution, one photograph, one proposal, one training session, one idea, or one connection can create an opportunity for someone else.

At Emetack, we welcome people who are ready to share what they know and learn from the communities they serve.

Your Skills Can Create Someone Else's Opportunity.
